Volunteers are matched one to one with a client of their choosing and meet independently in the client's home, or in community 1-2 hrs a week for socialization and/or rides to grocery or urgent appointments. Driving client is not mandatory.
Volunteers are matched one to one with a client of their choosing and will volunteer independently in the home of the client on Assisted Living Home Care who is living in community. Volunteers are asked to meet with their client 1-2 hours per week with flexibility. Clients on Home care who are referred to Volunteer Resources have limited informal supports. Volunteers engage in social activities both they and the client enjoy e.g. visiting, playing board games, going for walks, gardening, cooking/baking, computer work, discussing current events/news, reading, watching movies, looking at photos and more.
Volunteers must reside in the Edmonton Zone (Edmonton and outlying cities). be age 18, register within the Home Care Volunteer Database, attend an Interview, provide a clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Search, Provide 2 References, attend online/virtual Orientations, Provide a photo of themselves, meet with their coordinator, sign Confidentiality Agreement and Position Description.
Volunteers wanting to provide transportation for their client must provide a clear 5-year Driver's Abstract from an Alberta Driver's Registry, a copy of their pink slip- proof of vehicle insurance and complete an Addendum with information on driving history, make and model of vehicle and some additional information.
Volunteers using public transportation or those with reduced availability will have less client scenarios to choose from for a match. Afternoon visits are requested most often.
