Wildlife Rehab Care Assistants
These volunteer positions are available from April to October. That is when there is the greatest need. A commitment of 1/2 day or full day once a week (same day) is required during the busy season.
Volunteers can stay on during the winter months on a more flexible schedule, but we do not accept new volunteers until the beginning of April.
No experience is necessary as all volunteers will have training sessions and ongoing mentoring.
Depending on desire and experience, Volunteer Duties may include:
• Prepare, clean, and maintain indoor and outdoor enclosures of wildlife patients
• Admit and/or quarantine sick, orphaned, and injured wildlife patients into the facility
• Communicate with finder(s), providing resolutions and best conservational practices for conflict situations
• Assist with treatments of injured wildlife i.e. wound management
• Prepare and feed specialized diets to a large variety of different species
• Hand feed and support orphaned and compromised animals
• Update and maintain patient charts and database records
• Answer telephone inquiries, educate and help resolve human-wildlife conflicts
• Assist with informative and educational presentations to lake associations and special interest groups
• Assist in the rescue, capture, and release of sick, orphaned, or injured wildlife
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized working environment
