About This Opportunity
Are you a calm and patient person who loves helping people? Are you interested in teaching/coaching, information technology, working with older adults, or have a background in technology?
As a Connected Canadians' Technology Mentor, you will play a crucial role in empowering seniors through free technology training and support. Volunteers will undergo Connected Canadians' comprehensive training program, equipping them with the necessary skills to become effective mentors. The training covers the Steps of Service during a typical client session, guidance on working with seniors with varying impairments and needs, online security best practices, and more.
Responsibilities:
- In-Person Mentorship – Support older adults an seniors at interactive workshops held in libraries, community centers, and other public spaces in Toronto and surrounding areas.
- One-on-One Virtual Support – Assist seniors nationwide through phone or video calls, helping them troubleshoot devices, set up apps, and gain confidence online.
- Workshop Facilitation – Lead or assist in delivering educational sessions on key topics such as email setup, online safety, digital banking, social media, and video calling.
- Empowering Seniors – Guide older adults at their own learning pace, ensuring they feel supported and confident in using technology.
- Digital Security Awareness – Teach online safety skills to help seniors recognize scams, manage passwords securely, and navigate digital spaces with confidence.
- Ongoing Collaboration – Work alongside other volunteers and Connected Canadians staff to improve program delivery and enhance the learning experience for seniors.
Training & Commitment:
- Volunteers complete a structured onboarding process, including self-paced training modules, a group onboarding session, and a final role-play evaluation.
- Flexible commitment – volunteers can choose to support in-person workshops in Toronto and remote sessions across Canada, depending on availability.
- Volunteers are matched with clients based on skills, availability, and client needs.
