Alberta Printmakers (A/P) is seeking expressions of interest to join our Board of Directors!
ABOUT THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Board positions are held by volunteers and the Board of Directors is composed of individuals with a range of skill sets and experiences.
We welcome folks both with and without printmaking knowledge/experience, those who are emerging or experienced artists, and individuals without art experience who have leadership experience.
Each Director must be an A/P member in good standing (anyone can become a member!) and their term on the Board of Directors shall be for a minimum of two (2) years.
Members of the Board of Directors are expected to attend monthly board meetings and participate on committees to help direct the function of and contribute to strategic planning for the organization.
General Recruitment Criteria
Each member of the Alberta Printmakers Board of Directors should:
- Be available to attend most meetings at Alberta Printmakers in Mohkinstsis/Calgary
- Have an interest in printmaking and/or the arts
- Demonstrate a commitment to values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility and the cultivation of these practices and values in all aspects of A/P operations.
- Be open to opportunities of growth within the organizations such as work as a committee chair or on the Executive Committee • Be willing and able to work collaboratively
- Be dependable and respectful • Have an awareness of board structures and/or non-profit organizational structures
Current Priority Areas for Board Membership
A/P is seeking to recruit individuals for the following:
Gallery Chair or Co-Chairs:
- Core responsibilities include facilitating and coordinating a call for submissions for the main exhibition space, facilitating exhibition organization including some preparator duties, and reporting on committee activities at Board meetings and AGM.
- We are particularly interested in applicants who have knowledge of exhibition organization, installation, and jurying processes.
*Vice Chair:
- Core Responsibilities: take a leadership role in the strategic planning process; lead meetings when the President is absent; prepare a report for the AGM.
- We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience with personnel management, administration, recruitment, and policy development.
- The Vice Chair sits on the Executive Committee. This committee is responsible for carrying out emergency and unusual business between Board meetings including oversight of staff hiring and contracts, and other “high-level” leadership tasks.
Fund Generation:
- We are seeking members for the board who have demonstrated experience with fundraising.
- Examples include but are not limited to: experience with grant-writing, sponsorships, donations, etc.
- Experience with Charitable Status and non-profit governance would be an asset.
ABOUT VOLUNTEERISM WITH A/P
Volunteering on the A/P Board of Directors can be a great way to support your local community using specialized skills related to printmaking or relevant non-profit leadership. It is also a way to learn new skills white getting to know fellow artists, printmakers, and arts enthusiasts while steering the organization toward upcoming goals. A/P recognizes the importance of volunteerism in supporting the non-profit art sector, and we acknowledge how our volunteers contribute to the vitality and sustainability of the organization.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS NOMINATION PROCESS
A/P invites expressions of interest to be emailed to director@albertaprintmakers.com.
A/P encourages and welcomes applications from members of equity-deserving groups including members of Indigenous, Black, and racialized communities; persons identifying as LGBTQIA2S+; and persons with disabilities.
The Nominating Committee, which is A/P’s current Executive Committee, will review each expression of interest on an ongoing basis until June 15, 2024 considering the Board Recruitment Criteria that is listed below. Individuals who show alignment with these general criteria and priorities for board membership will be invited to meet with the Nominating Committee to discuss the organization and their interest further.
