About This Opportunity

This volunteer position is perfect for individuals who have strengths in the knowledge of the land, are passionate about the outdoors, enjoy working with youth, and are committed to providing enriching Land Based Learning experiences that foster personal growth and environmental stewardship. Volunteering for this position offers numerous benefits, including: 

  • Gain hands-on experience leading or supporting staff teams in Land Based Learning with youth at school, and potentially on out-days 

  • Build relationships with fellow volunteers, staff members, and youth participants in the outdoor education community. 
  • Contribute to promoting environmental stewardship and implementation of impactful and engaging Land Based Learning experiences. 
Skills and Interests 
  • Keen interest in working with youth with varying needs 
  • Knowledge of local land (i.e. Medicinal uses, flora and fauna, mushroom identification, bird identification etc.) 
  • Outdoor Education (Bushcraft, Survival skills, camping, hiking etc.) 
  • Specialty skills: Kayaking, Canoeing, Cycling, Swimming, Avalanche Skills Training etc. (asset: current certifications and openness to facilitate learning) 
  • Other relatable skills that are conducive to ‘Land-Based Learning’

Location: Volunteers can meet at the program location for in-class days. If invited to join the class on an out-day, volunteers may join transportation the class or meet at the destination for the day. 

Date and Time: The time commitment for this volunteer position may vary depending on the needs of the class and the availability of the volunteer. Typically, volunteers will do a half or full day with the students which is generally between 9am-3:30pm.
