About This Opportunity
Reimagine Agriculture is searching for a policy strategist and lobbyist to advise and support our Canadian Food Waste campaign focused on developing regulations for pre-consumer stages of the food chain.
If you enjoy working on a small, dynamic team and have experience in policy research and analysis, government relations and strategic advocacy, and communications we would love to hear from you.
This unpaid volunteer position will report directly to the Executive Director and has a required commitment of 3 hours per week.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Significant experience with political lobbying and advocacy
- Strong analytical/conceptual skills – big picture thinker with an understanding of the workings of government processes and legislation
- Highly organized, detail-oriented and excellent planning skills
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively as a dynamic team player
- Ability to identify when outside information, data or consultants are required
Preferred:
- Ability to communicate in French and English
- Media training/familiarity and comfort speaking to the media
- Demonstrated research skills
- Experience campaigning on related health, environmental and social issues
- Extensive up-to-date knowledge of environmental and national issues
Role and Responsibilities:
- Research and analysis of environmental and agricultural policy related to food waste
- Support of drafting position statements, briefs, press releases, and other external and internal documents
- Leading the development and coordination of a federal food waste policy campaign
- Looking for opportunities to connect to the Federal government and tie campaign to current news
- External stakeholder relations and relationship building with other national organizations and the public
- External coalition and project work, eg. sitting as Reimagine Agriculture’s representative on various coalitions and external projects
- Media outreach and ability to take media interviews if/as required
- Working closely with other team members, on a variety of tasks
We want to find a volunteer who has an understanding of food system issues and a passion to address them. Applicants should be open-minded and thoughtful. It is absolutely not necessary to be vegetarian or vegan for the position as we are a diverse and inclusive team.
