About This Opportunity

The Stage Manager, has an extremely important and challenging job; in fact, they can be said to be the ‘glue’ that holds all the various parts of the show together. The Stage Manager is the person responsible during the run of the show – efficiently, smoothly and on time. At Metro Theatre, an Assistant Stage Manager can be assigned, to share the workload.

TECHNICAL KNOW-HOW It is not necessary for the Stage Manager to know all the technical details of lighting, sound, or the mechanics of stagecraft, but an all-round understanding for what things do what, and who knows how to do it, is essential. When things go wrong, the Stage Manager needs to know where, and to whom to go, to correct the problem. SCHEDULING The Stage Manager – the Stage Manager should obtain, from the Director, the breakdown of any specified scenes or sections which may be rehearsed separately, so that the calendar can show which actors will be required, when, and what they need to prepare in advance. Master production/rehearsal schedule will be provided from the production Coordinator

THE STAGE MANAGER’S BOOK The Stage Manager’s Book will be the definitive (and invaluable) record of the development of the production. Because others may need to refer to it (e.g. in an emergency when the SM is not present) it is important that it be legible and comprehensible to others. The Stage Manager’s Book is a VERY IMPORTANT document, and must be easily read by others; the Stage Manager’s Book should not be removed from the Rehearsal Hall or the Theatre, in case it is needed for any emergency situation. REHEARSALS a) The Stage Manager or Assistant Stage Manager will attend each Rehearsal. The Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager must attend all rehearsals during ‘Tech Week’. b) During the Rehearsal Phase of the production, the Stage Manager will report from the Director, to The Production Team any changes to costumes, props, lighting, etc. by completing and circulating the Rehearsal Report

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES A complete outline of the Stage Manager’s Role at Metro Theatre will be provided from Metro; based on experience, training will be provided throughout the audition, rehearsal, and performance process, up to Closing Night.
