About This Opportunity
Who: Volunteers can be anyone in grade 11 or above. They should be friendly and interested in working with kids. The kids we tutor often have a learning disability and/or ADHD, and we work with kids from the kindergarten level right to grade 8 students. Our volunteers work 1-on-1 with a student in their time tutoring with us.
What: Tutors may instruct in basic subject areas such as Language Arts (reading, spelling, writing) and Math. Volunteers will be paired with a student they feel most comfortable with (age preferences and subject preferences are taken into consideration before choosing which student a volunteer will be paired with). Tutoring day plan and tutoring worksheets are all provided by staff - Tutors are just expected to walk through and explain the prepared activities with the students
Where: Chatham Kent Secondary School, rm. 205, 285 McNaughton Ave. East, Chatham On.
When: For this 15 week long program, we are looking for volunteers to tutor on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesday, and/or Thursdays. Tutoring starts on February 20th, and will continue until June 6th. The time slot we run tutoring from is 4-5pm.
Why: Students with learning disabilities may need some additional help in certain subject areas, and they also benefit from a 1-on-1 learning experience
How: We would plan an orientation date to teach you the process and strategies used for our tutoring program, then we would select the day(s) you wish to volunteer on, match you with your student, and plan for your first day of tutoring. Be advised that staff will always be available to assist and answer questions.
