Sawa World is looking for a volunteer Web Developer who will play a key role in maintaining our organization's website, ensuring a seamless user experience. As a web developer, you will be responsible for performing regular updates, optimizing performance, ensuring security, and troubleshooting issues. As a Web Developer, you may also collaborate with the operational and video teams to create visually appealing and functional web solutions that effectively communicate our mission and initiatives to our stakeholders. 

 Sawa World uses an innovative approach to instantly transform the lives of the unemployed and marginalized youth by giving them the skills to start micro-businesses in one day with locally-created and simple solutions to self-employment. 

 We provide large-scale access to local solutions that are created by the very people living in extreme poverty. Our programs are managed by a vibrant and youthful team at the Sawa World Solution Center in Kampala, Uganda. We also have staff and volunteers in Canada and around the world, who support the work done in Uganda. 

 Main Duties 

 Website updates 

•  Complete ongoing website updates as needed, including front end content and back end infrastructure. 
•  Develop strategies to enhance user experience and increase organic traffic.
• Support consultants during major website upgrades 

•  Optimize website performance, loading speed, and search engine visibility.
• Troubleshoot website functionality/issues. 
•  Ensure optimization, responsiveness, and cross-browser compatibility. 

• Ensure website security and SSL certificates. 
•  Adhere to the best practices in data protection and privacy. 

• Proven work experience as a Web Developer, with a portfolio showcasing web projects and technical skills. 
• Proficiency in front-end web technologies such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and responsive design frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap). 
• Experience with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, and familiarity with PHP. 
• Proficiency with popular online platforms such as Google Business Suite, YouTube & LinkedIn 
• Understanding of web analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) and search engine optimization (SEO) techniques. 

• Strong attention to detail, ensuring websites are error-free and meet accessibility standards. 
• Fun and outgoing personality, ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, managing multiple projects and deadlines. 
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate technical concepts into user-friendly language for non-technical stakeholders.
